1. The term style is associated with the receiver, which means who you´r writing to, if the letter has to be personal or inpersonal. If the receiver is a company or a private person. "It's look" of the letter, it´s appearance and form is also important.
2. Formal writing: Business letters, for example an apply for a job, a request for information, a letter to the tax authories or the immigration authorities, the curriculum letters which focusing on their particular text-type, it´s features as well as the function not less.
The formal letters appearance (Example 4 in AW but with the date line to the left):
- The heading, i.e. the address of the writer shall be upper to the right, below the date line written month and date, (it has to be a comma) year.
- The full address of the recipient shall be written to the left of the letter, four lines below the date line.
- The salutation, for example "Dear Mrs Marble," (comma). Write the name if the name/person is known, otherway only Dear Mrs,.
- The subject line shall be two lines below.
- The letters content has to be as clear as possible, not with an overflow of words but to be concrete and you as the writer have to be polite.
- "Yours sincerely" is a complimentary close, two lines below the last line of the message. You can use Best regards, or Regards, if the reciever is known.
- The typed name and title is writing four lines below the close.
- Enclosures, four lines below the typed namn, also with the title of the document.
An informal letter can look slovenly when not the purpose is clear. Think of the addressee´s reference, is there the real name of the recipient or not? Too much information make the reciepent tired of reading, maybe is it repeated and bad language make it blur and rude. The format of the letter is not structured, like the Example 8 in AW. You never start a letter with "I want..." and when you are a employee it´s really bad to be focused on yourself. You shall be curious about the job you´r searching for, tell them what you can do for them.

Dear Ms Eriksson,
I´m very grateful to being able to help you with the arrangement for the Cat show of the year.
As you requested I have asked a lot of people on the list what they can combine to. Everyone take their own cages with. It will be ca 250 cages and also assessories, so you only need to let us be in your hall. I´ll be there of course with my own charming cat Nisse.
It will be small cats as well as cats about ten years old who are still in form and they are playful, know their own wearth.
Maybe you can sell food and vitamins this year too?
I look forward to this year show and to have the date and time for the all arrangement.
Yours sincerely,
Margaretha Karlsson

Dear Sir
I want to be operated within a week, because of my jobsituation.
I can be there about two-three days.
It´s importan for me to have an own room, so I can play which music I want and when I will when it´s boring. That I hope you will understand.
It´s necessary for me to eat as soon as possible.
You have to do the right thing to me.
Yours sincerely,
Margaretha Karlsson
