Assignment 4, March 30
The grading of children in primary school
The children know a lot already from early age. My thoughts in connection with my statement are about the influences from TV, computer and journeys in general, concurrently with the society and all impressions there are. E.i. how all this have influence on us. We become splintered, the children as well as we do.
With early grades, let say in the 1st grade, written reports of childrens academic progress do well. These will help them structure their subjects, see their achievements and I mean also push them! Open new prospects from time to time. They have something to struggle for. The orderliness becomes also good with demands. There are many children in the school together and they need a good structure. It will work even for the children who have some kind of difficulties, for the climate in the classroom and totally in the school.
Therefore I'm for grading of children in primary school. At the age of 14 it is really remarkably too late to introduce grades for the first time I think. Grades in the 6th grade is a good change, but why wait I say? I don't see the contents of the proposal as if the children become extra high burden and pressure from it.
Still they are children, depending on how we educate them and so they are at breaks, that's my opinion. The level of education is as we all know suited to them. I agree with the writing about that the "laissex-faire attitude does not benefit a child". They need a good preparation for higher studies from the beginning of their schooltime as a basic ground. They also need feedback, it will stimulate.
That's also right then, what's written, "one has to catch the problems early, so the problems can be fixed early". They benefit by it in their future, with higher studies and applying for a job. At least, a good basic ground favours further studies.

SvaraRaderaFirst of all: You have written an interesting argumentation.
Paragraph 1 & 2
Your introduction is interesting and you present a couple of arguments. But maybe you should save some of the arguments for later in the text?
Paragraph 3
You state your claim in a clear way, good! You have support for your arguments as well, well done.
Paragraph 4
Here you present more arguments to support your claim. Interesting that you refer back to the article Anna sent us, but maybe a reference to where you have read it would be in its’ place? Do you not think that more support for your arguments would make the text more convincing? Your argument “They need a good preparation for higher studies from the beginning of their school time as a basic ground” I think is your strongest argument.
Paragraph 5
The beginning of the paragraph starts with “That’s also right then…” To really emphasise what you want to say I would say something like: I agree with what they say in the text…. Otherwise your conclusion is good, maybe a bit short.
Over all:
• Your text feels a bit short; you have so many interesting arguments, why not support them more? Or maybe you should skip a few of the arguments and put a lot of effort to support the ones you have instead?
• Some counterarguments to refute always make an argumentation stronger.
• To avoid the report to feel too informal, try not to write abbreviations like; I’m, what’s, don’t and so on.
• Sometimes your word order is a bit Swedish. To read it out loud to myself usually helps me.
Good Job Margaretha!

Linda Cooper
